NeverWorld Letter 1

LETTER ONE

Dear Friend,

The world has changed so much since the robotic uprising. No one is safe anymore. Once an eerie yet beautiful place, the Sapphire Forest has spread. It now consumes these lands like a dark shroud of overwhelming sadness. What hope do we have left?

I have traveled the world many times over. I have seen what it has become. The moon has grown dark, and the sun has grown dim. Each day meshes together with the next. It is impossible to distinguish between the two. Even the wind has grown still. Boats can no longer sail. We all rely now on machines. Some believe machines are the future; maybe they’re right. However, you and I both know what these machines can do; no good will come of this. I can promise you that.

The animals that once inhabited these lands have fled. All is quiet and still. The chirping of birds, the playful banter of squirrels, the scurrying of chipmunks, and the busy movement of spiders are gone, all gone. Only silence remains, a silence that could make even the bravest of men go mad. The forest is now littered with the corpses of the brave men and women who dared to venture into the wood. What is it that made this forest so angry and sad?

You of all people should remember what it was like before the war. Your stories of times past are the only thing keeping me going. I only wish that I could live to see those days for myself. It would give my heart great joy to travel the world and see it as it once was. I fear those days will never come. The world is dying. Soon it will be naught but a memory. We and all living in it will be gone forever.

It’s not just this continent. As I said, I have traveled the world. The continents have scattered and no one seems to care for the world as we once did; each race cares only for their petty desires. In this letter, I have included a map of this continent. I have also given a brief description of each of the five regions within it. I hope it will be of use to you. They are as follows:

The Enzoflagon Wastelands is the battleground of the Nine-Hundred-Year War. A black scarred landscape where plants refuse to grow. All forms of life are either dead or gone. Only the charred black figures of the soldiers who once fought there remain.

The Umbertanian Marshlands is a place of despair and hopelessness. Many who have ventured there have ne’er returned. Those who are lucky enough to make it out alive have become mutes. I know not what lies in its depths. I wouldn’t dare to venture in very far.

The Tetra Highway is a frozen land filled with terrible and frightening beasts, most harmless, while others, dealing with the Dark King, will obey only him. It is impossible for the weary traveler to decipher between the two.

Metombalu was once known for its great beauty and lush wilderness. Now it is all but a memory. The once-beautiful lands are all but lost. In their place stands the Mechanical City of Tartarus, with its tall buildings that zigzag into the darkened sky.

Finally, Gogeska Valley, now the only peaceful place left in this dark and dreary world. I’m sure I don’t need to describe your own grassy lands. You need only to look out the window to see what beauty surrounds you.

I have written to you because I understand that you are in possession of Benson’s only heir. This is good news. There may be hope left, but we must act quickly. I know many who would kill for this information. We must protect Benson’s heir at all costs.

That is why I have sent you this letter. If we do not act now it will be too late. Please. You must hurry. Time is of the essence . . . He is coming.

Yours truly,

Alexandria, Explorer Extraordinaire
